Gamma Irradiator Systems

Hopewell Designs, Inc. offers several industry-leading gamma beam irradiators. These easy-to-use systems will measurably increase efficiency and accuracy in a variety of user applications. Each irradiator produces gamma radiation beams of variable intensity for exposing objects to gamma rays from Cesium-137 and Cobalt-60 sources. These systems are available with manual operation using electronic controllers, or with full automation that includes computer control, auto set-up, automated irradiator calibration and more.

The Model G10 Gamma Beam Irradiator is well suited for health physics instrument calibration.  The horizontal free-in-air radiation beam provides uniform and precision dose rates. The ISO-4037 collimator minimizes scatter.

A simple design and quality manufacturing assure this system will operate reliably for decades**. The system may be controlled by a computer or an electronic controller (PLC+HMI). There are six configurations to choose from based on source quantity and size.

**Highly reliable calibration system that is field-proven through tens of thousands of hours of use without failure.

The Model GI-Am241 irradiator is used for testing instruments at low energy. The Am-241 source has an energy at 60 kV as opposed to Cs-137 at 662 kV or Co-60 at 1.2 MeV.

The Am-241 source capsule is shaped as a disc, similar to a coin, to optimize the dose rate for this low energy gamma emitter. The Model GI-Am241 gamma beam irradiator can hold a single Am-241 source or an array of multiple sources on a  source rod that is raised vertically to lift it out of its shield to the exposed position.

While the Model GI-AM241 irradiator is offered as a stand alone system, it is typically mounted at the opposite end of our linear positioning system from the primary irradiator system (G10, GC60, etc.) and is controlled by the primary irradiator's control system. For computer controlled systems, selecting the Am-241 source flips the positioning track's reference scale to show the distance from the center of the instrument platform to the center of the Am-241 source.
